Gloss Like A Boss: Kérastase & The Science Of Shine

April 1, 2025

Glass hair, but make it effortless. With the launch of Kérastase Gloss Absolu on April 1, 2025, the iconic brand is bringing pro-level shine straight to your vanity. Infused with skincare-inspired ingredients like hyaluronic acid, glycolic acid, and wild rose oil, this four-step collection is designed to hydrate, smooth, and illuminate every strand—all without a trip to the salon.

To get the inside scoop, we sat down with Kérastase Educator Sabrina Mulé to break down the science behind Gloss Absolu’s Hydra-Glazing technology, the must-have Glaze Drops, and why shine is the new status symbol in haircare. —Noa Nichol

Gloss Absolu is being described as Kérastase’s most transformative collection yet. What makes this range stand out from previous launches?

For the first time, we are using Glycolic Acid. As we know, it is a hero ingredient in skincare, offering the same benefits for hair as it does for the skin. At Kérastase, we elevate our technology every time we launch a new product or range.

The collection draws inspiration from skincare, incorporating ingredients like hyaluronic acid and glycolic acid. How do these ingredients benefit hair in the same way they do for skin?

Hyaluronic acid is used in skincare and haircare to attract and retain moisture.  It helps keep hair hydrated, soft, and less prone to dryness and frizz. By moisturizing the hair, it can enhance its elasticity, preventing and treating breakage and split ends. While its primary function is hydration, hyaluronic acid can also smooth the hair cuticle, leaving it shinier and more manageable. Glycolic acid is used in skincare as a gentle exfoliator, and we are using it in the same way! This helps clarify scalp pores from stubborn sebum and smooths the hair cuticle, allowing light to reflect better and giving the hair the shine it’s been missing.

Can you explain Hydra-Glazing technology and how it contributes to the mirror-like shine that Gloss Absolu promises?

Hydra-Glazing targets not only the outer surface but also the inside of the hair cuticle. First, we plump up the cuticle by using hyaluronic acid to hydrate the hair and then tighten the cuticle cells with glycolic acid which will create a smooth surface. The result is a glossier, smoother, and bouncier look. In other words, Hydra-Glazing!

The Glaze Drops are already creating buzz among stylists. What makes this product a hero in the collection, and how should it be used for best results?

It is a hero in the collection due to its incredible performance. By using just a few glaze drops, you can get 4x more gloss. The lightweight formula makes it suitable for everyone. Simply apply 1-3 drops to mid-lengths and ends on either dry or towel-dried hair.

Gloss Absolu is designed for effortless shine at home. How does this range compare to in-salon glossing treatments in terms of results and longevity?

We know in-salon treatments deliver long-lasting results due to the professional-grade ingredients and techniques. With Gloss Absolu ingredients, you can achieve the same look and feel, with lasting results, all from the comfort of your own home.

Frizz control and humidity protection are major concerns for many. How does the Anti-Frizz Glaze Milk work to keep hair sleek and glossy, even in challenging weather conditions?

The lightweight, milky texture of this product forms a barrier around the hair fibre, trapping frizz. Glycolic Acid removes impurities in the hair, giving the hair a beautiful glossy finish, while using hyaluronic acid to hydrate and plump each hair strand, ensuring a frizz-free result.

What hair types will benefit most from the Gloss Absolu range? Is it suitable for colour-treated, textured, or fine hair?

The Gloss Absolu range is suitable for all hair types from thin or thick, straight or coily, and colour-treated or virgin hair.

How should consumers integrate Gloss Absolu into their existing haircare routine? Are there specific dos and don’ts when layering these products with other treatments?

At Kérastase, we focus on tailored solutions based on your hair concerns and desired results. We recommend customizing your at-home care routine by mixing different products from different ranges to create a personalized hair care plan.

Scent and sensorial experience play a big role in luxury haircare. What inspired the Wild Rose Oil infusion, and how does it enhance the overall experience of using the collection?

Consumers today are seeking the glaze trend, which focuses on packaging, scent, and results. The Gloss Absolu range delivers all of this, with the added benefit of rose oil that enhances the overall experience.

With the growing trend of hair glossing treatments, how do you see Gloss Absolu shaping the future of at-home hair care and professional salon services?

Gloss Absolu will elevate and enhance the gloss trend, thanks to its two key ingredients. While people are increasingly drawn to glossy makeup and dewy skin, we’ve now introduced the same radiant look for your hair. There’s currently nothing else like it on the market.
