First of all, no matter how organized you are, you cannot plan your fertility journey. That’s just the reality. Nature decides, and that can be frustrating, heartbreaking, and filled with waiting. As someone who thrives on structure (and makes a career of helping others get organized), I quickly learned fertility is one area where you can’t control the outcome, only the process.
For a bit of background, I froze my eggs at the age of 32, while deep in my corporate career and without a husband. I then used those eggs at the age of 42, and now have wonderful husband and two healthy twins (a boy and a girl). There were of course challenges and bumps in the road. That said, staying organized helped me feel more grounded during one of the most emotional and unpredictable seasons of my life.
Whether you are at the beginning of your fertility journey or have been at it for years, my hope is that these five tips bring you clarity, calm and a small sense of control, especially on the hard days. —Jane Stoller
Start a dedicated fertility binder (digital and physical)
Between test results, prescriptions, and paperwork, fertility treatments come with serious admin. I created a labeled desktop folder and a physical binder for printed forms and lab requests. Most clinics also have online portals. It is key to learn to use yours early, as you’ll need to check it often.
Share a synced calendar with your partner
This journey is hard on couples. One thing that helped us stay connected was syncing a Google Calendar to track appointments, medications, and rest days. It kept us aligned and made my partner feel involved, even during the waiting.
Build a “meds station”
When you’re injecting hormones or taking timed pills, having everything in one place helps. I kept a fridge bin with labeled syringes and a pill organizer for daily meds. I also set alarms to stay on track. If you have read my past organizing articles, I am a huge fan of investing in a label maker!
Block time for rest and recovery
Fertility fatigue is real. I started treating self-care like an appointment; acupuncture, slow walks, early nights. If possible, let your team or employer know, as you may have daytime appointments or need flexibility. Taking time off during intense phases, like egg retrieval, helped me mentally and physically.
Find a fertility buddy and do your homework
The process can be confusing, and clinics are often too busy to explain every detail. I found it helpful to connect with someone who had been through it. A “fertility buddy” became my go-to for questions, support, and reassurance.
