The future of global culture just got a powerful vote of confidence. This week, the CHANEL Culture Fund announced the winners of the 2026 CHANEL Next Prize, the House’s prestigious international award spotlighting contemporary artists who are redefining their disciplines—and pushing culture forward.

Now in its third edition, the biennial prize—established in 2021—continues CHANEL’s long-standing commitment to creative audacity, innovation, and artistic freedom. The 2026 cohort brings together ten pioneering artists from ten different countries, working across visual art, performance, design, music, choreography, and film.

This year’s recipients are: Álvaro Urbano, Ambrose Akinmusire, Andrea Peña, Ayoung Kim, Bárbara Sánchez-Kane, Emeka Ogboh, Marco da Silva Ferreira, Pan Daijing, Payal Kapadia, and Pol Taburet.

As diverse as they are multidisciplinary, the artists share a common thread: each is actively reshaping how stories are told, how bodies move through space, how sound and image interact, and how identity, technology, memory, and culture collide in the present moment. Their practices span immersive environments, experimental music, choreography rooted in ancestral memory, boundary-pushing fashion and performance, and genre-defying cinema.

Each winner receives €100,000 in unrestricted funding, designed to give artists the time and freedom to fully realise ambitious new projects—alongside a two-year mentorship and networking programme supported by CHANEL’s global cultural partners, including London’s Royal College of Art.

The CHANEL Next Prize builds on a legacy that stretches back over a century, beginning with Gabrielle Chanel’s support of avant-garde pioneers and continuing today through a platform that champions creative risk over convention.

As Yana Peel, President of Arts, Culture & Heritage at CHANEL, puts it: the prize is about creating “the conditions for artists to thrive on their own terms”—and judging by this year’s cohort, the next chapter of global culture is already well underway.
