A Flame Reborn: Nando’s Returns To Kerrisdale After Heartbreaking Fire (Win!)

In October 2023, a devastating fire tore through the heart of Vancouver’s Kerrisdale neighbourhood, destroying several small businesses. Among them was Nando’s, a community staple that had served the area for two decades. After more than two years of rebuilding, the wait is finally over: Owner and Operator Sonny Mahal is officially reopening the doors on March 23, 2026.

The new location has moved just down the street to 2179 West 41st Avenue, sporting a fresh look that signals a new design direction for the iconic brand.

More Than Just a Restaurant

For Mahal, the journey back to opening day was fueled by the deep connection he felt with his neighbors. “Kerrisdale has always meant more to us than just a restaurant location,” Mahal shares. “Losing the restaurant in the fire was heartbreaking, but the neighborhood’s support reminded us how special that connection really was”.

The rebuilding process has been an inspiring feat of dedication for the entire Nando’s Canada team. As Lauren Aubry, Director of Marketing, notes, the reopening is a chance to welcome back longtime guests and continue a legacy that was nearly lost.

South African Roots, Modern Design

While the signature 24-hour marinated PERi-PERi chicken remains the star of the show, the interiors have received a sophisticated “skincare-level” glow-up. The new space features a curated, high-design aesthetic inspired by Nando’s South African heritage:

• Artisanal Details: A hand-plastered feature wall and elegant millwork wall paneling.
• Natural Textures: A striking cork ceiling that adds warmth and modern edge.
• Statement Lighting: Chandeliers inspired by the brand’s home country.
