You started Poppy & Peonies after becoming a mom-how did motherhood shape the way you design bags today?
Motherhood was the turning point. It rewrote my design perspective overnight suddenly I wasn’t just thinking about style, I was thinking about function, speed, and surviving the chaos of a busy day.
I went from carrying a cute bag to carrying everything, and realizing most bags weren’t built for real life. So I started designing from that place: busy mornings, hands- free, digging for keys while holding a coffee and a kid. Every detail we create now is rooted in that reality, bags that look put-together but work overtime behind the scenes.
For busy moms juggling everything, what are the non-negotiable features you believe every great everyday bag should have?
Organization is everything, but it has to feel effortless. No digging, no guessing, no repacking your life every morning.
For me, it’s a dedicated laptop sleeve, a water bottle pocket that actually fits (and doesn’t tip over), and a trolley sleeve so it slides right over your luggage when you’re traveling. A key leash is non-negotiable, I refuse to lose my keys in my own bag.
Then it’s the layers of organization, multiple compartments that actually make sense, we design matching accessories so you can add a tech case for all your cords and chargers and a pouch for your makeup.Everything has a place. Designed to organize your everyday chaos.
Mother’s Day is all about celebrating the little things—what’s one small design detail in your bags that you think makes a big difference in a mom’s day-to-day life?
The key leash. It sounds small, but it’s life-changing. No more digging at the bottom of your bag while your car is double-parked and your kid is asking for a snack. It’s one of those tiny details that quietly saves you five minutes and a little bit of your sanity every single day.
What’s your personal go-to “mom bag” from Poppy & Peonies right now—and what are the must-have items you always keep inside it?
Right now, it’s the Multitasker Tote. I love it because it truly fits everything. I’m constantly traveling, always on the go, and it basically carries my life.
Inside, you’ll find the essentials: my laptop, lip gloss, snacks (always), and a few pouches to keep things organized. But if I’m being honest, there’s also room for my husband’s wallet and keys and my daughter’s snacks, it quickly becomes everyone’s bag, which is exactly why I designed it that way.
For anyone gifting this Mother’s Day, what makes a thoughtfully designed accessory feel more meaningful (and actually useful) than a traditional gift?
It’s the kind of gift that says, “I see you.” Not in a big, over-the-top way but in the everyday moments.
