British Columbia is about to offer one of the wildest same-day travel experiences imaginable.

This summer, Aspire Canada Tours is launching a first-of-its-kind same-day grizzly bear expedition from Vancouver to the legendary Khutzeymateen Grizzly Bear Sanctuary—giving travellers the chance to witness one of Canada’s most extraordinary wildlife habitats without needing to pack for an overnight trip.

Taking place for one day only on Saturday, July 4, the experience begins with an early morning private charter flight from Vancouver to Prince Rupert, followed by a seven-hour guided marine wildlife expedition aboard a 72-foot catamaran through the tidal waterways of the Great Bear Rainforest. Guests return to Vancouver the very same evening—having spent the day immersed in one of the most ecologically significant protected areas in the country.

And the wildlife viewing potential is major.

Timed specifically around low tide conditions, the excursion is designed to maximize opportunities to spot coastal grizzly bears as they emerge along the shoreline to forage for clams and marine life. Along the route, travellers may also encounter humpback whales, orcas, bald eagles, sea lions, seals, and other iconic West Coast wildlife.

The Khutzeymateen sanctuary itself is especially significant. Established in 1994, it became Canada’s first grizzly bear sanctuary and remains one of the most protected and remote wilderness regions in the province. Access is tightly controlled to preserve the delicate ecosystem, making experiences like this relatively rare.

The marine expedition is operated in partnership with Prince Rupert Adventure Tours, with onboard naturalist guides providing wildlife interpretation and ecological education throughout the journey.

Adding another layer of appeal: the tour lands right in the middle of the FIFA World Cup festivities happening in Vancouver, offering visitors an unforgettable non-match-day escape into the heart of British Columbia’s wilderness.

The full-day experience includes round-trip private charter flights, breakfast, lunch, dinner, transfers, and guided wildlife touring, with introductory pricing starting at $1,470 CAD through June 15.

Honestly, this may be the most Canadian day trip imaginable. —Noa Nichol
