What if your entire makeup bag could be simplified down to a handful of beautiful, multi-tasking essentials? That’s the philosophy behind Wonderblush, the Canadian beauty brand co-founded by makeup artist Mélanie Hachey. Inspired by her signature fresh-faced aesthetic, the collection blends skincare-forward formulas with intuitive, easy-to-use products designed to enhance—not hide—natural beauty. Now available in more than 25 countries, Wonderblush is proving that effortless glamour and clean, Canadian-made beauty are a perfect match. We caught up with Hachey to chat about building a global brand, the rise of “no-makeup makeup,” and why less really can be more. —Noa Nichol

Wonderblush feels rooted in the idea that makeup should enhance rather than transform. What does “natural beauty” personally mean to you in today’s beauty landscape?
To me, natural beauty isn’t about covering anything up. It’s more about looking like the best version of yourself on your best-rested day. That sense of looking awake, refreshed, and quietly radiant, as though you’ve just returned from a weekend away. In a landscape that often equates beauty with transformation, I think there’s something powerful in makeup that simply lets you look like you, only more luminous. Natural beauty, for me, is enhancement so seamless it’s almost invisible. You don’t notice the makeup; you notice the person.
You built your reputation creating soft, radiant bridal beauty looks. How did years of working so intimately with women shape the philosophy behind Wonderblush?
Working so closely with women taught me something that became the foundation of Wonderblush: most people don’t want more products or more steps. They want to feel confident and look effortlessly radiant. So many of my clients felt overwhelmed by the sheer volume of it all: endless tutorials, dozens of products that do the same thing, shade ranges that feel impossible to navigate. What they truly wanted was simple: to look like themselves, fresh and luminous.
That clarity shaped every decision behind Wonderblush. I chose hydrating ingredients and forgiving textures that blend and build easily. I curated shades that feel approachable rather than intimidating, designed to be worn every day. And I focused on products that require very little technique: intuitive enough that anyone can reach for them and feel beautiful, no expertise required.
There’s a quiet confidence to the brand—nothing feels overdone or performative. Was it important for Wonderblush to create products that feel effortless rather than overwhelming?
It was essential. I never wanted Wonderblush to feel like another decision to agonize over. So much of beauty today asks the consumer to do the work: to decode, compare, and second-guess. I wanted the opposite: a curated assortment where every product earns its place, where the choices are made with care so the experience feels intuitive rather than overwhelming. That restraint is intentional. True confidence in beauty doesn’t come from having more options, it comes from trusting that what you’ve chosen will simply work.
Wonderblush sits beautifully at the intersection of skincare and makeup. Why do you think modern consumers are increasingly drawn to beauty products that feel nurturing as well as cosmetic?
I think consumers have become more thoughtful about what they put on their skin, and they no longer want to choose between care and color. They want both at once: a product that nurtures the skin while delivering that fresh, put-together look. There’s also a desire for efficiency: pieces that do more, so a routine feels lighter rather than longer. At Wonderblush, this is exactly where we live: formulas built on clean, hydrating ingredients that treat the skin as well as they beautify it. Beauty that feels as good as it looks is no longer a luxury people are willing to compromise on.
In an era of fast-moving beauty trends and maximalism, Wonderblush feels intentionally timeless. How do you stay true to your aesthetic while still evolving creatively?
Wonderblush is built around timeless pieces.Products you’ll reach for year after year, not just for a season. Our assortment is classic at its core, but we stay attentive to the trends we believe will become genuine staples rather than passing moments. Before we develop anything new, we ask a few essential questions: What need does this fulfill? Why does it resonate? Is it easy to use? Does it deliver that fresh, radiant finish?
Our cream blushes are a perfect example. We launched them because they met every one of those criteria: they’re multitasking (cheeks and lips), effortless to blend thanks to a hydrating formula, and beautifully practical in a stick format made for touch-ups on the go. That’s how we evolve: not by chasing every trend, but by adopting only what aligns with our philosophy and earns a lasting place in someone’s routine.
You chose to formulate and produce the line in Canada. Why was local manufacturing such an important part of the brand’s identity from the very beginning?
Manufacturing in Canada was never just a logistical choice, it was a point of pride. We believe in drawing on our local expertise, supporting our own economy, and showcasing Canadian craftsmanship on the international stage. There’s a real savoir-faire here, and being able to say our products are made at home, to exacting standards, means a great deal to us. As Wonderblush has grown across borders, that origin has become part of our identity: a quiet assurance of quality that travels with every product, wherever it’s sold.
Many of your products are designed to multitask—lipstick that doubles as blush, eyeshadow that works as highlighter. Do you think beauty routines are becoming more intuitive and personal rather than rule-based?
Absolutely, one hundred percent! As a makeup artist, I never used a single product for just one purpose. I’d mix formulas, use a lip oil as a blush topper for extra dewiness, sweep a little bronzer through the crease for a sun-kissed warmth. Beauty has always been more instinctive than the rulebook suggests. I think consumers are arriving at that same place: they’re less interested in long, prescriptive routines and more drawn to simple ones that genuinely work. Multitasking products give people permission to make beauty their own, to experiment, adapt, and find what feels right for them rather than following someone else’s steps.
Wonderblush has grown from a family-run Canadian startup into a brand available in more than 25 countries. When you look at where the brand is now, what feels most meaningful to you about that journey?
Makeup has been part of my life for as long as I can remember—it’s always been more than a profession; it’s a genuine love. What feels most meaningful is simply this: I get to do what I adore every single day, and I get to share it with women around the world. To see something that began as a family endeavor in Canada now living in many countries is humbling in the truest sense. But what moves me most isn’t the number—it’s knowing that our philosophy of effortless, radiant beauty resonates with people everywhere, regardless of where they are. That connection is the part I’ll never take for granted.
