This Dramatic Bridal Accessory Was The Star Of Emma Roberts’ Vintage Wedding Style

It’s fitting that American Horror Story actor Emma Roberts wanted to channel a ghostly, gothic aesthetic on her wedding day.

Roberts married fellow actor Cody John (they were engaged in July 2024) this weekend in an outdoor ceremony at a private residence in Idaho. For her ceremony look, Roberts wore a custom dress by Monique Lhuillier. The bridal designer shared with Vogue that Roberts dress took nine months to make, and over 1,000 hours to complete.

Roberts told Vogue that when it came to her wedding dress, she didn’t really know what she wanted but one thing she loves in life is an old-world aesthetic. “I just knew I wanted it to feel very vintage-inspired,” Roberts said of her wedding dress. “I’m obsessed with antique books and treasure hunting, and I love collecting old ephemera, so I really wanted that to shine through in the dress.”

The bride went on to say she also knew she didn’t want to wear traditional bright white down the aisle, so she worked with Lhuillier to create a bespoke fabric colour that had a tea-stained effect. “I kind of wanted to look like a ghost—a little antique ghost doll.”

Roberts’ gown was made of silk chiffon and featured a draped corset bodice, layered skirting with a dramatic side slit, and a draped bustle. The gown was accessorized with a removable lace and chiffon shawl and a chapel-length veil. The finishing touch which made the look ultra-dramatic, and a little haunting: a delicate lace voilette.

Roberts’ dainty face veil was designed to be both fashionable and functional as Lhuillier made it to be worn two ways—across the face or pushed back to create a lace headband. Voilettes are a huge part of Lhuillier’s Spring 2027 collection, and seeing Roberts wearing one down the aisle this weekend has cemented the accessory’s must-have for brides who want an unconventional piece that imbues their wedding look with a heightened sense of individuality and artistic flair. — Alison McGill
