This year marks the 10th anniversary of the Hands-on Cook-off contest—a unique video challenge that, for a decade, has been inspiring kids, teens and adults to cook together and reap the valuable benefits of sharing meals (think better grades in school, better health, overall social adaptability and more)!
On from April 15th to May 15th (closes at noon), families across B.C. are invited to participate in this year’s contest, themed "memory-making in the kitchen," by creating and submitting their own short home-cooking video. Videos must include two or more generations or two or more youth preparing a recipe together—and remember, having fun while doing so is an essential element! Videos must be no longer than three minutes and meet additional criteria (detailed here). An esteemed panel of judges, including chefs Ned Bell and David Hawksworth, style and entertainment expert Susie Wall, and B.C.’s Minister of Agriculture, the Honourable Lana Popham, will be looking for creativity, clarity interaction, that "x-factor" and, most importantly, cooking together and having fun.
So, whether you capture the twins making homemade donuts, the kids helping grandma creating her world-famous lasagna, or your hubby whipping up a Mother’s Day breakfast-in-bed with your son, you won’t want to miss entering the Hands-on Cook-off contest. Up for grabs: multiple cash prizes up to $1,000 and, new to the contest this year, returning participants have the chance to win $500 cash!
What are you waiting for? Grab your fam, get in the kitchen, and start cooking—together! —Noa Nichol
