If there’s one event we look forward to every year, it’s IDS West.
The True North Strong is chockfull of talent in the home and design worlds, which is why it’s always a visual treat to see what established and up-and-coming designers, brands and vendors are up to on an annual basis.
On opening night this year, there was considerable buzz around the H&L Laneway Home, built by Alair Homes and sold live at the show on Saturday evening. Custom-built and measuring in at 516 square feet, a sizeable crowd lined up to take a peek at its west coast contemporary features, Bocci lighting and other flourishes by designer Gaile Guevara.
Montreal-based Montauk Sofa made a big statement right in the room’s centre, with a towering photo wall displaying a risqué vignette perhaps a nod to the shenanigans sure to follow at the annual Montauk party at their Gastown location that coming Saturday night.
Other favourites at the show included a wood swing in the laneway home section (a good swing session always makes us smile), the Union Wood Co. booth (they had old vintage name tags for the taking) and, of course, the marketplace of jewellery, art and other goods (spotted Daub + Design there).
A well-heeled crowd and a well-designed life we’re looking forward to next year already.
