This summer, a dynamic new retail space is bringing Indigenous excellence to the heart of downtown Vancouver. Meet TIDAL: Turtle Island Design and Lifestyle, the city’s first-ever Indigenous women-led pop-up shop, now open at The Shops at Bentall Centre.
Coinciding with National Indigenous Peoples Month, TIDAL is a vibrant collaboration between Indigenous women-owned businesses:
- West Coast Wildflowers, RavenSong Soap & Candle and Bear Essential Oils by Alissa Assu
- Copper Canoe Woman by Vina Brown
- Sriracha Revolver Hot Sauce by Jordan Hocking
Together, these trailblazing founders are creating more than a storefront—they’re building a movement of community, culture, and commerce.
Located at Unit 202 of Bentall Centre (505 Burrard Street), TIDAL is open Monday through Friday, 10 AM to 4 PM. Inside, shoppers will find body care, food, and fashion products that are all Indigenous-owned, designed, and made in Canada. “This isn’t about mass-produced designs manufactured overseas,” says Alissa Assu. “It’s about genuine cultural expression crafted by our hands, not just our names.”
Each of the founders is a graduate of Capilano University’s Indigenous Digital Accelerator Program (IDA), which supports early-stage Indigenous businesses rooted in community values and environmental sustainability.
The creators of TIDAL come from a beautifully diverse range of Indigenous nations and heritages:
- Alissa Assu: Wet’suwet’en, Nisga’a, and Southeast Asian
- Vina Brown: Haíłzaqv (Heiltsuk) and Nuučaan̓uł
- Jordan Hocking: Plains Cree, Sweetgrass First Nation
TIDAL is a space for shopping Indigenous, supporting women-led businesses, and celebrating the artistry, resilience, and storytelling of Canada’s Indigenous communities. As Assu puts it, “TIDAL is about lifting Indigenous women, our creativity, and our commitment to community and land stewardship.”
