The countdown to the National Bank Open is officially on—and Canadians are clearly catching tennis fever.

According to new Google Search trends, fans aren’t just planning to watch the action when the tournament begins August 1. They’re booking lessons, shopping for court-ready outfits, following their favourite players and embracing the “tenniscore” aesthetic in a big way.

In fact, searches for tennis lessons have soared 160 per cent compared to last year, while searches for tennis equipment have exploded by an eye-popping 5,000 per cent over the past month. Safe to say, plenty of Canadians are ready to swap spectator seats for centre court.

Fashion is also having a major moment. Searches for tennis outfits are up 130 per cent, with classic tennis skirts and tennis dresses leading the trend. Canadians are also searching for Lululemon and looking to recreate Naomi Osaka’s effortlessly cool on-court style.

When it comes to the tournament itself, fans are searching for everything from the player lineup and match schedule to tickets. Even with the withdrawals of Jannik Sinner and Novak Djokovic, interest remains high, with Canadians closely tracking who will be taking the court.

Homegrown talent continues to steal plenty of attention, too. Fans are following every update on Félix Auger-Aliassime, Leylah Fernandez, Victoria Mboko and Gabriel Diallo, searching for everything from matchups and rankings to injury updates and player backstories.

Whether you’re refreshing your wardrobe with a new tennis dress, perfecting your backhand or simply counting down to first serve, one thing is clear: Canada’s tennis obsession is only getting bigger—and this summer, everyone wants in on the action. —Noa Nichol
